There are several incredibly amusing jokes about not getting out of your PJ’s during social distancing. While I’m getting a kick out of them, I have to be careful. Through the years I’ve learned that my physical appearance actually has a deep impact on me. I remember this moment when I was brushing my hair between the gym and my next appointment. I realized that I was pulling myself together, not because I needed to look presentable for my next meeting, but because I wanted to look good for myself. With that in mind, who I see or don’t see in the course of a day should have little impact on the choices I make when I get ready in the morning.

In these COVID-19 times, I’ve noticed that my productivity can be measured by the tightness of my pants. The looser I go, the less I get done. I know that investing time in how I look will directly affect how I feel throughout the day. How I feel will directly affect how I treat myself. How I treat myself will affect how I treat others. Putting my clothes out the night before, blow drying my hair, getting dressed to my shoes—these all become important steps in my carona-self-care. And as it turns out, they also become very important steps in my corona-family-care as well.

I'm going to share part of a private comment because I got such a kick out of it.

Aaaah, it's so nice to laugh.

Matt, way to go. I love the, 'get some things done and head back to sleep' thing. I do that on weekends sometimes and it's lovely.
And I too feel more productive when the sun's out. Thanks for checking in.

Aunt Queenie, thanks for sharing. You are very likely the person who told me to do it, because I too have been doing since the newborn stage. Looking forward to some body changing guidance as well when I hit that stage in the very near future.

Chris, I agree too with the 'casual realm'. Never fancy, just buttoned up...it feels good.

Thanks for the great post. I do this too. If I get dressed nicely, even in my usually casual realm, everything goes better for me. Snappy clothing, earrings, cute hat to walk the dog. It all has to do with showing up for myself.

I made this get dressed get pulled together rule for myself long ago - like newborn baby long ago... Couldn't agree more it sets tone of my day, even if it is 'tight pant pissy' from falling off the wagon (or pre menopause body changing horror, but no need to go there... lol) I consider it self respect and quiet eyes do notice. xo

Got up at 6:00. Did the family care thing. Followed with making apple pancakes and reading Mag’s Blog. Now, I’m going back to sleep... I think today will be productive because its sunny out.
