The Work isn't the Work

March 15, 2019  •  4 Comments

Sometimes I get caught up in thinking that the task at hand is the work. That writing the blog or parenting the children or finishing the chore is the work. But when I’m only focused on the completion of things, I’m missing an opportunity.

My understanding of it is that the work isn’t the work—the work is the spiritual journey. Can I take time to get quiet and ask for guidance to write something that someone else really needs to read this week? Can I remember that being loving and setting a good example are truly the only things that matter to me when it comes to parenting? Can I find peace in the process of doing the chore and not always just on the result of the chore?

My day is abundant with opportunities to connect and let go, but so often I confuse those opportunities with thinking that, when things don't go as planned, I have to hold on even tighter.

Dawn,
Thank you for the words of encouragement and the reminder that the work is never done.

Richard, thanks for the check-in.

Daniel,
You are so right—a new opportunity DOES present itself every minute. There are lots of minutes in the day that I forget that.
Practice makes progress. We can do this.

Well said Mags - abundant opportunities to do it the right way with the right mindset --- a new opportunity seems to present itself every minute --- thank you

Only time helps with letting go...not being perfect...not having our children being perfect...enjoying the here and now and being able to fulfill our spiritual journey and feeling peaceful. My tasks don’t always get done, my children are adults (and successful in spite of me )...the house is ok...sometimes better than others. I still freak when said husband comes home with mud/dirt on his shoes and tracks it everywhere but at 71 I’m still a work in progress. You have this honey...love and blessings
